HELLBOY NEWS:

Animated 'Hellboy' Hits Stores Today

June 12, 2007 -- We don't normally cover animated films here at eSplatter, but if Guillermo del Toro is involved, they're at least worth talking about. The animated direct-to-DVD feature, which originally aired on the Cartoon Network, features Ron Perlman voicing the character of Hellboy. The sequel to "Sword of Storms," "Hellboy: Blood of Iron" received the signature of Mike Mignola and Guillermo del Toro. A third film is being planned but hasn't been greenlit yet.

In "Sword Of Storms", Hellboy and Kate Corrigan are dispatched to Japan to solve the mystery of a professor possessed by the Japanese demons Thunder and Lightning. The demons wish to get their hands on a powerful haunted sword, which will free them, and allow them to unleash their brothers and destroy the world. While Hellboy is sent into an alternate dimension, facing Youkai on the way, his B.P.R.D. teammates Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman, try to stop one of the Dragons on the first wave of the coming chaos. Here's the storyline of the sequel: In 1939, young Professor Bruttenholm (affectionately nicknamed "Broom" by his colleagues and students) destroyed Erzsebet Ondrushko, a vampiress who bathed in the blood of innocents to stay young after selling her soul to the Queen of Witches, the goddess Hecate. Years later, a haunting at upstate New York is brought to the BPRD's attention. The elderly Professor Bruttenholm decides to investigate it himself, taking top BPRD agents, Hellboy, Liz Sherman and Abe Sapien, who are more worried about his welfare than a haunting. Much to Broom's horror, it turns out that the ghosts are the victims of Erzsebet Ondrushko, who is soon going to be resurrected by her two harpy/hag servants. While the others deal with her hag minions, phantom wolf packs, and a werewolf transformed from one of Broom's old friends. Broom settles his affairs with Erzsebet once and for all. Hellboy ends up battling Hecate herself, who has been watching him for some time and desires him to embrace his true destiny: one that includes the destruction of mankind.
