Out Now: July 31, 2007 -- It's a big day for horror fans with HD-DVD players. One of the best horror titles of the past five years is striking HD-DVD: "Shaun of the Dead"! [MORE] Individual Trailers for 'Death Proof' and 'Planet Terror' July 31, 2007 -- "Death Proof" is hitting DVD separate from "Planet Terror" in the U.S. and is being released theatrically in Europe. Here's the German trailer. Meanwhile, we've added the international trailer for "Planet Terror" as well. [MORE] 'Diary of the Dead' in the Can July 30, 2007 -- IMDB reports that George Romero's "Diary of the Dead" is now in the can and already has European distributors lined up. The budget was $10 million -- lower than the budget for "Land of the Dead" but not that much lower. [MORE] TV Spot for 'Halloween' July 30, 2007 -- It showed up on Spike TV. July 29, 2007 -- The poster for "The Mist" was unveiled at Comic Con. With an R rating, the film is sure to be one of the most hotly anticipated Stephen King horror films in over a decade. [MORE] Ken Russell's 'The Devils' to Screen at Horror/Fantasy Fest July 28, 2007 -- If you live in or near L.A. you're lucky because the American Cinematheque's "7th Festival of Fantasy, Horror & Science-Fiction 2007" takes place August 2-26. Mostly screening at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, it features a lineup of classic and new horror films, including Lamberto Bava's new movie "Ghost Son," Roger Vadim's 1960 classic "Blood and Roses," the Hammer classic "Kiss of the Vampire," Ken Russell's "The Devils," and a new 35 mm print of "Blood on Satan's Claw," [MORE] Bad 'Grind House' News' July 28, 2007 -- Some news that has come out of Comic Con about 'Grind House': The films are being divided into two separate films for disc and the faux trailers won't be part of the package. “Doomsday is hugely inspired by the films I grew up with, post apocalyptic thrillers - Mad Max, Road Warriors. Zombie Updates Fans on New Scenes in 'Halloween' July 3, 2007 -- Rob Zombie updated his blog on the just-filmed new scenes for the "Halloween" remake. His message to fans: Don't worry. Movie won't suck. [MORE] Romero Posts Letter to Fans July 3, 2007 -- We haven't heard a peep out of George Romero for a while, but today he posted a letter to fans on his just-launched MySpace blog devoted to "Diary of the Dead." [MORE] Anchor Bay to Re-Release 'Demons' July 3, 2007 -- Anchor Bay is bringing "Demons" and "Demons 2" (both by Lamberto Bava) back to DVD this September. has had a new screening added! The Thursday screening has sold out,

29th at 7:00pm at The Majestic Crest Theater, 1262 Westwood Blvd.

'Mandy Lane' Trailer
June 27, 2007 --
Now being released with the streamlined title "Mandy Lane," the
much-anticipated slasher film has a trailer. Check it out
here. Rumor has it the film will hit theaters as early as July
20, although that seems unlikely given that the film has no poster
yet.
What's Left for DVD?
June 26, 2007 --
With DVD set to be replaced either by HD DVD or Blu-Ray in the coming years (or maybe both), some essential catalog titles never released to disc are finally hitting shelves this fall. Mostly, we're talking about Sept. 11, 2007, when a ton of great titles hit shelves.

[MORE] 'From Beyond' Cover Art June 26, 2007 -- MGM has revealed the cover art for the much-anticipated Sept. 11 release of "From Beyond." [MORE] New Review: 'Behind the Mask' June 23, 2007 -- Hitting DVD shelves this Tuesday, "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon" is a mixed bag, but should satisfy fans of 1980s horror that enjoy seeing the genre spoofed and dissected. [MORE] Horror Goes High-Def June 21, 2007 -- Starz has announced that the "Masters of Horror" series will be released in Blu-Ray this year. If you haven't caught this excellent horror series in High-Def already on Showtime, you'll be amazed. Expect to see classic episodes like Joe Dante's "Homecoming" and John Carpenter's "Cigarette Burns" in high-def on your Sony Playstation 3 soon. Plus, Warner's has announced direct-to-video horror titles in the HD-DVD format. [MORE] Darren Lynn Bousman on 'Saw IV' June 21, 2007 -- Love ‘em or hate ‘em, you have to admit one thing about the SAW franchise: it has managed to avoid the pit that sucks so many horror sequels down into box office oblivion. The first SAW was a sleeper hit, considered a success because its tiny $1-million investment netted nearly $50-million at U.S. theatres; both SAW II and SAW III expanded on that number, each earning over $80-million. [MORE] More Commentary on 'Hostel Part II' and Why R-Rated Horror Is About to Hibernate Again June 21, 2007 -- Here are more of my thoughts on why "Hostel Part II," a very good fear film, bombed so badly at the box office. Simply put, the "novelty" of R-rated horror was worn off again. It's worn off before, and it's wearing off again. But more importantly, our society is changing. We're going from right-wing to left-wing. That's happened before too. [MORE]
June 19, 2007 -- Even more images from Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' have surfaced. Meanwhile, it's becoming clear that the box office performance of "Halloween" is going to be critical for the genre we all love. In fact, if this film bombs, we can probably expect to see the genre sink into the moribund direct-to-video-only mess that it was in throughout the first half of the 1990s. [MORE] Out Today on DVD June 19, 2007 -- An interesting day for DVD releases, highlighted mostly by the sublime "The Abandoned," one of the best horror films of the year to be exact. An absolute must grab. [MORE] 'Tales From the Crypt' on Sept. 11 June 18, 2007 -- Now, "Tales From the Crypt" from 1972 and its Amicus anthology sequel "Vault of Horror" are hitting DVD on Sept. 11. So says DVDDrive-in. The titles are being released by 20th Century Fox. Also hitting stores that day from Fox is "The Fly" collection, featuring the original classic with Vincent Price, its sequel "Return of the Fly" and the never-before-available "Curse of the Fly." [MORE]'Grindhouse Universe' DVD June 15, 2007 -- Ban1 Productions is presented a 2 1/2-hour compilation of trailers entitled "Grindhouse Universe", which will include trailers from the likes of "Dr. Butcher M.D." and "Crimson Cult". Watch for it this summer. [MORE] Box Office Blahs: 'Hostel Part II,' '28 Weeks Later' Disappoint June 12, 2007 -- Despite great reviews from fans, "Hostel Part II" and "28 Weeks Later" were big disappointments at the box office, which has many in the industry worried that the horror genre is on life support. [MORE] Animated 'Hellboy' Hits Stores Today June 12, 2007 -- We don't normally cover animated films here at eSplatter, but if Guillermo del Toro is involved, they're at least worth talking about. [MORE] Connelly to Star in Barker and Del Toro's 'Born' June 12, 2007 -- Clive Barker and Guillermo del Toro collaborate to produce "Born," a new "thriller" that may or may not qualify as a horror film. [MORE] Tarantino's 'Death Proof' Gets Solo DVD release June 12, 2007 -- Quentin Tarantino's half of "Grindhouse" is now heading to DVD by itself on Sept. 18. No word on when "Planet Terror" will be hitting disc. "Grindhouse" flopped at the box office and Dimension Films has been struggling to find an effective way of making its money back. June 8, 2007 -- Producer Yuzna guarantees that a fourth "Re-Animator" film will be made, although whether it will be "House of Re-Animator" or directed by Stuart Gordon isn't 100 percent clear. [MORE]
June 7, 2007 -- More MGM titles have been announced for DVD in the USA for Sept. 11. MGM is resurrecting its Midnite Movie series to give us, uncut and anamorphic for the first time in the USA, the legendary Vincent Price-starring and Michael Reeves helmed "Witchfinder General" (aka, "The Conqueror Worm"). Also up the same day from the same series is "Food of the Gods," that long sought-after giant-rats schlock film from the 1970s. As previously reported here, MGM is also releasing "Scarecrows" the same day, along with the uncut never-before-seen version of "From Beyond."Summer Guide to Horror Movies June 7, 2007 -- School's out and the horror movie season is upon us. 'Third Mother' Gets Neutered May 30, 2007 -- When it hits screens in Italy this October, Dario Argento's "Third Mother" will be in a cut form. [MORE] Sept. 11 Sees 'The Burning,' 'From Beyond', 'ROTLD' Special Edition and (Rumor Has It) 'Scarecrows' May 29, 2007 -- Plus, on Sept. 25, Warner Bros. is releasing the acclaimed 1977 BBC miniseries "Dracula." But the big news of the week was from MGM, which announced via Fango that "The Burning," "From Beyond" and a special edition of "Return of the Living Dead" will hit DVD shelves Sept. 11. What has been reported much elsewhere is that "Scarecrows" is also one of the titles that will hit stores in what promises to be the biggest day for horror on DVD in years. [MORE] Horror a Hit at Cannes May 29, 2007 -- While the festival is now over, an aftermath of Cannes that should be enjoyed by horror fans is that fear films had a larger presence this year than any in recent memory. Dario Argento's "The Third Mother" was just one of many horror titles that garnered attention this year. [MORE] Dee Wallace Joins Tomaselli's 'The Ocean' May 29, 2007 -- Director Dante Tomaselli hinted at it a while back, but Dee Wallace has officially joined the cast of his next movie, "The Ocean." New shots of Young Michael Myers, and one of masked/old Michael Myers confronting what looks like a Pumpkinhead. [MORE] Suvari Speaks on 'Day of the Dead' May 23, 2007 -- It has horrible, horrible buzz, but Steve Miner's remake of George Romero's "Day of the Dead" is slowly starting to get press. Star Mena Suvari (best known for roles in "American Pie" and "American Beauty" spoke to Sci-Fi Wire about her role in the film, which may be released later this year. May 16, 2007 -- The official Web site for Elisha Cuthbert and After Dark Film's June 22 horror film "Captivity" has opened for business. The story: A fashion model and a chauffeur are kidnapped and held hostage in a small room by a serial killer. While the madman methodically terrorizes them, the victims draw strength from each other and fall in love. [MORE] 'DOA' Trailer May 15, 2007 -- Check out the trailer for videogame adaptation "DOA: Dead or Alive." [MORE] Out Today on DVD May 15, 2007 -- The big title of the week is clearly Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth." But also hitting stores this Tuesday is "Thirst" -- promised as a cross between "Requiem for a Dream" and "Near Dark" -- and "Creepshow 3." -- Rich kids, get ready: Lions Gate is auctioning off signed posters for 'Hostel Part II.'
The highest bidder scores an exclusive "HOSTEL: PART II" movie posters signed by Eli Roth, Bijou Phillips, Heather Matarazzo, and Vera Jordanova. The auction benefits the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. The winning bidders will receive studio certified posters signed by the cast and filmmakers along with a signed letter verifying their authenticity. Auctions begin today and will continue through the film’s opening weekend. Interested fans and collectors should be aware there are only a limited amount of posters available.
