Details Emerge on 'Spit on Your Grave' Remake

November 29, 2009 The horror remake craze gets crazier by the minute. Some titles are winding up forgotten almost minutes after they are released, such as the recent "It's Alive" remake. I'm wondering if the "I Spit on Your Grave" ramke won't fall into that category as well.

It's currently filming in Louisiana and Moviehole caught up with the director, Steven Monroe, to talk about it:

"We wanted to stay as true to the original as possible while making sure it was updated in a few ways. There is one additional lead character, a Sheriff played by Andrew Howard, and of course we upped the brutality and length of the tortures and kills - as they were quite short in the original - which was really a disturbing Thriller at heart not a Horror film. I also wanted to update the look of the film and give it a very voyeuristic quality and gritty realism".

About the replacement for Camille Keaton in this one:

"I believe Sarah Butler is going to be a huge star", Monroe says of the actress playing heroine, Jennifer. "She took this role on fearlessly and nailed it like I don't think anyone else could have. I can't and will never say enough about her. There are also a lot of horror fans out there already complaining that the cast is all no names, I can personally guarantee you that no actress with a name would have had the guts to pull of what Sarah did or went through during shooting, no way. She is awesome."

I dunno. It is doubtful that someone would be willing to go through what Camille Keaton went through for the original. Or that a film even remotely as outrageous as "Spit" could be made in ths day and age. What will really determine how daring and disturbing this new film is is how sexually explicit it is. The "Last House" remake seemed to go politically correct -- making it an especially annoying remake to a politically incorrect classic.

The film's cast includes Chad Lindberg, Daniel Franzese, Rodney Eastman, Sarah Butler, Jeff Branson, Saxon Sharbino, and Amber Dawn Landrum. It will be released by Anchor Bay.
