A Blow for R-rated Horror -- Guillermo del Toro's 'Mountains of Madness' Is Dead

March 8, 2011 Terrible news! The James Cameron-produced, Guillermo del Toro-directed "At the Mountains of Madness," which was set to star Tom Cruise and start filming in June, has been canned!

Del Toro recently let Criterion Cast know about the cancellation via email. Apparently Universal was concerned about producing a big-budget R-rated horror film.

Drats!

Now it's looking like Del Toro's next film will be about giant monsters attacking the Earth: "Pacific Rim," by writer Travis Beacham. Likely PG-13.
