'Countess Dracula' Hits Blu Ray in May

March 30, 2014 After going out of print on DVD in the U.S., Hammer's classic 1971 true-horror-story "Countess Dracula", starring Ingrid Pitt, at last hits Blu Ray on May 6! The original announcement from Synapse that it would hit Blu Ray eventually was made in 2011 so it's been a long time coming.

I remember when we were excited just to have this title out on DVD in the U.S. The two-disc set features the film in high definition, of course, but also a just-announced slew of special features, including:

Audio Commentary With Actress Ingrid Pitt, Director Peter Sasdy, Screenwriter Jeremy Paul And Author Jonathan Sothcott
Immortal Countess: The Cinematic Life Of Ingrid Pitt Featurette
Audio Interview With Ingrid Pitt
Still Gallery
Reversible Cover Artwork
Theatrical Trailer

This release comes a few months after another much-sought after Hammer gem hit Blu Ray: "Frankenstein Created Woman" from 1966 is now out in the format in the U.S. too.

Now, if only Warner Bros. and MGM would release "Curse of Frankenstein", "Horror of Dracula", "The Gorgon" and "Curse of the Werewolf" so we'd have the complete essential Hammer collection out in high definition.
