February 8, 2008 New Line Cinema has signed on Mezco Toyz as master toy licensee for its House of Horror brand featuring iconic characters from the Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. The new products will be showcased at the 2008 Toy Fair in New York City (Feb. 17-20).
The new lines from Mezco include: “Screen Grabs”-branded dioramas of terrifying scenes from all three film series; 7” collectible action figures; 12” collectible figures with fabric clothing; 9” scale stylized vinyl figures; and the first “House of Horror” plush toys ever. While the product lines feature the infamous classic characters Freddy Krueger (NOES), Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th) and Leatherface (TCM), they also dive much deeper into the film series with the inclusion of characters and scenes that are fan favorites but have not yet been represented in a toy product range until now.
“Mezco has really delivered on the fans’ wish list with this toy program” said David Imhoff, New Line Cinema's Senior Executive Vice President, Worldwide Licensing and Merchandising. “These film series have always been about more than just Freddy, Jason and Leatherface in their trademark costumes. Mezco’s broad product range celebrates that.”
The Mezco Cinema of Fear/House of Horror line will include -- for the first time in plastic —Choptop from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2; the Hitchhiker and the Cook from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, (as part of a special 3-part box set re-enacting the infamous “dinner scene)”; Nancy Thompson, the lead heroine from A Nightmare On Elm Street and A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 3, Freddy Krueger in his bloody tuxedo and his psycho chef outfit and Jason from both Friday the 13th Part 1 and The Final Chapter.
“Our Cinema Of Fear lines that encompass the New Line House of Horror brand are a dream come true for us. We are all big horror fans here at Mezco,” said Mez, President of Mezco Toyz. “These are the stories and characters that define the horror genre. It‘s an honor to be involved with them.”
In 2009, New Line Cinema will celebrate the 25th anniversary of A Nightmare on Elm Street and the 35th anniversary of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In addition, the studio will release a reinvention of Friday the 13th, which starts production in 2008.
