Some quick news bites on Bret Easton Ellis, "Stepfather" remake casting, and more.
"American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis will adapt the novel "Downers Grove" for the movie screen. Written by Michael Hornburg, "Downers" centers on Chrissie Swanson, a paranoid high school senior for whom graduating has become a matter of life or death, according to the Hollywood Reporter. ...
Bloody Disgusting reports that Amber Heard (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane), Paige Turco (Invincible), Braeden LeMasters, Skyler Samuels and Jon Tenney (Tales from the Crypt) will join the previously announced Dylan Walsh, Sela Ward, Penn Badgley, Adrianne Palicki, Chris Meloni and Sherry Stringfield in "The Stepfather" remake that will complete filming in April.
David Fincher has taken over for Alexandre Aja on the film "Black Hole". Aja, of course, directed the now classic "High Tension" and "The Hills Have Eyes" remake. Fincher did "Alien 3", "Seven" and "Zodiac." The Hollywood Reporter calls "Black Hole" a "horror romance." Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman are adapting the screenplay, based on a graphic novel. It will be distributed by Paramount.
Speaking of Paramount, the studio is the last to drop HD-DVD in favor of Blu-Ray. Look for the first eight "Friday the 13th" films to hit Blu-Ray -- not HD-DVD -- someday. When, it's too soon to say. But we could really use some good back catalog horror in high definition soon.
