August 5, 2008 From the direct to video "Starship Troopers 3" to the remake of HG Lewis' "Wizard of Gore" to another edition of "Cannibal Holocaust," August is going to be a pretty busy month for horror on DVD.

This Tuesday, we've got the direct-to-DVD slasher "Baby Blues" hitting stores. The film has some positive buzz around it, but we'll see. It's about a psycho mom who goes berserk following childbirth then goes after her kids, one of whom must learn to fight to survive and save his siblings.
Also this Tuesday, Dimension Films is releasing Greg McLean's "Rogue." Look for our review shortly. McLean, of course, helmed the awesome "Wolf Creek." Also out this Tuesday, the rather big budget direct-to-DVD "Starship Troopers 3," which looks like a return to form of the franchise after "Starship Troopers 2."
Some of the most anticipated titles of the month are "The Killing Gene" from Dimension Extreme (August 12) and "An American Crime," the true crime horror film featuring Ellen Page. That film is based on the same true crime that "The Girl Next Door" was based on. Expecations are high but it's funny the film headed straight to DVD with Page's star power.
On August 19, one long out of print moldy oldie hits stores: "The Unseen". Not the best horror movie. It stars Barbara Bach (Mrs. Ringo Starr), but it has been "unseen" as it were for so many decades now, it's kind of a must.
On August 19, Dimension Extreme strikes again with Jeremy Kasten's remake of "Wizard of Gore" starring Crispin Glover and the Suicide Girls. The film enjoyed a brief festival run in Los Angeles and any horror film with Glover is worth a look so this is one title worth at least a rental.
August 26 sees a new edition of "Nude for Satan" from Redemption (review of the film here) and a new 2-disc edition of "Cannibal Holocaust". As if that weren't sick enough, a remastered edition of Jess Franco's slasher fillm "Bloody Moon" hits stores on the same day.
