Brides of Blood (1968)
Directed by Eddie Romero

Starring Beverly Powers Eva Darren John Ashley Kent Taylor

Also known as "Brides of the Beast," this is the first of the Filipino-produced John Ashley vehicles directed by Eddie Romero.

Ashley plays a Peace Corps worker who travels to the ominously named Blood Island in order to investigate reports of mutants caused by local radiation tests. Oversized crabs, butterflies, and menacing trees with moving appendages are discovered, as well as a hulking misshapen monster who the natives have been sacrificing their young women to. Not quite as excessive as some of the later Ashley/Romero films, with only modest nudity and some humorous gore. Cheesy fun nonetheless.

Kent Taylor co-stars as another scientist and Beverly Hills plays his nymphomaniac wife.
