Prince of Darkness (1999)
Directed by John Carpenter

Starring Donald Pleasence Jameson Parker

Fed up with Hollywood, John Carpenter decided to go independent once again, producing this—the second worst movie of his entire career. The film shows serious signs of director's burnout.

The absence of his former photographer, Dean Cundey, is painfully obvious in this boring horror film. Cundey helped define the look of Carpenter's early films, from "Halloween" to "Escape From New York." Without him, Carpenter was basically neutered. Although his major Hollywood movies, such as "Christine," were decent, once Carpenter cut himself loose from those big studio dollars, he wasn't up to the task of delivering a low-budget classic.

The result is "Prince of Darkness," about the accidental unleashing of the anti-Christ from a green tube locked inside a church. The so-called "son of the devil" basically is just a satanic super fluid that sprays into people's mouths from the tube, turning them into space cadets—not even zombies.

Pleasence plays a worried priest.

The best that can be said about this movie is that it was one of the first in year to feature a new score by Carpenter.

I too think that this movie sucks, but it has some nice things like the unexplainable camera recordings. Don't know if it has been remarked yet, but Alice Cooper stars in this movie. You can even see him in the trailer. He's the pale hobo. He's back.

Very bad. Terrible actors, stupid script (university students are going to save the world? , the devil put in a jar? …) Shameful dialogues.
