The previous picture, "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers," came out more than seven years after a previous "Halloween" flick that focused on Myers, and fans were hungry for more. But this one was cranked out a year after part 4 and no one was particularly interested.
The film takes off immediately after the events in Part 4. Myers, after being gunned down by an army of police officers, falls into a river, floats downstream, and takes refuge in the home of an old man. A year passes. Myers kills the old man and heads out, looking to kill his young niece, Jamie, played once again by Harris. Jamie, recovering in a mental institution after stabbing her step-mom in a fit of insanity following the events in Part 4, now has a psychic connection with her uncle. She's also mute.
Dr. Loomis (Pleasence) now apparently lives in Haddonfield and is practically a friend of Jamie's family. A strange man in black seems to be tailing Michael on his way to Haddonfield. Michael Myers romps around town in broad daylight wearing his mask, and no one seems to really notice, except for the mysterious man in black.
There are some nice scenes, at least, including a car chase through a Christmas tree farm. But all in all, the film doesn't hold up, and won't make any sense if you're not familiar with Part 4, itself not a great film. It would be a long six years until the next film: the even-worse "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers."
Maybe it was all just a dream, but I seem to recall years ago reading an article which talked about Taratino having something to do with the writing of Halloween5,cant remember if it was pre or post DOGS but it seems to stick in my mind, but then I believed in SANTA CLAUS until I was thirty five!!.Halloween5 was a DISASTER!!!! atleast 4 tried to return to the old formula and also move the story along in an unexpected way, which I think it succeeded in doing.5 on the other hand was nothing new, poor acting, god awful story and did anyone else spot the WACKY SLAPSTICK sound effects everytime the two sheriff Dept duputy's were on screen? VERY,VERY POOR.The only saving grace was the idea of a lone bounty hunter type who seemed to know where Michael was striking next and at the films conclusion bust him out of lock up,which lead to the equally UNWATCHABLE Halloween6.
Rank this film on a '666 scale' of one to six (left to right). Based on 2037 votes.
