AMITYVILLE II: THE POSSESSION (1982)

Directed by Damiano Damiani

Starring Burt Young and Rutanya Alda

The only film in the entire "Amityville" franchise worth seeing is a total piece of sleazy, gore-drenched, incestuous trash.

Supposedly a prequel to the first movie, it follows the story of a young man who, possessed by a demon, kills off his entire family while living in the infamous Amityville house.

The flick is basically an almost criminal "Exorcist" rip off and boasts a pretty cool transformation film at the end where the possessed teen (Young) goes through the motions of becoming a full-fledged demon as a local priest tries to exorcise him.

His sister has a brief nude scene, taking off her clothes in front of her brother -- not the sort of thing you can get away with in Hollywood today. All in all, this flick pays off as effective sleaze. But producers followed it with the utterly worthless, PG-rated piece of crap, "Amityville 3-D," which isn't reviewed here because it doesn't even qualify as " splatter."

The fourth in the series was a TV movie also not worth reviewing, entitled "Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes." The franchise eventually got up and running again with a direct-to-video series replete with gore and violence with the fifth entry, "The Amityville Curse," and eventually "Amityville Dollhouse."
