BLEEDERS (1997)

This film might be of interest to viewers seeking something a little out of the ordinary.
A man returns to his hometown on an isolated island community in hopes of finding a cure for his rare form of blood disease. Meanwhile, strange troll- like creatures who live underground on the island have begun to claim human victims after their usual food supply in the local graveyard is cut off when the cemetery is relocated. There is actually a connection between the two incidents, but to say any more would give away too much of the plot. Dan O'Bannon ("Return of the Living Dead") co-wrote the screenplay which starts out rather ponderously but builds momentum and throws in some surprises as the film progresses.
The monsters, created by Adrien Morot are creepy looking, especially the ones who propel their legless bodies by walking on their stumpy arms. Rutger Hauer, as the local doctor, is the only familiar face in this Canadian production that's off-beat enough to be at least moderately enjoyable.
