BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR (1990)
Starring Jeffrey Combs and Bruce Abbott Weak sequel to "Re-Animator" does bring back Combs (as the mad Dr. Herbert West) and David Gale (as the headless evil Dr. Carl Hill) and features some pretty good gags, but the gore and sex are toned down compared to the first film and there's almost no suspense. Missing is Barbara Crampton, the super-babe from Part 1. Dr. Hill does now have bat wings grafted to his head so he can fly, which is mildly amusing. Also, Combs manages to be pretty funny, giving an over-the-top performance that almost outdoes what he did in Part 1. But all in all, the film can't overcome its gaping pot holes. Stuart Gordon also didn't direct this and it shows. Yuzna is known for making pretty bad horror sequels, among them "Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: The Initiation." He did manage to make one great horror film once, "The Dentist." I'd suggest skipping this one. |
