Davis, who was somewhat known for starring as an Ewok in "Return of the Jedi," landed his most famous role as an evil leprechaun in this god-awful horror film that spawned an entire series of brainless movies.
Yes, this movie does have a following, otherwise it wouldn't have spawned umpteen sequels. But it sucks. It sucks hard. The best that can be said about it is that it's superior to its own sequels. How this film became a success boggles the mind.
A family who moves into a new home discover some gold, not knowing that it belongs to—you guessed it—a leprechaun, who goes about killing anybody who came into contact with his treasure. "Where's me gold?" he keeps mumbling as he knocks off grade-Z actors in a string of uninteresting murders.
This film somehow made it to theaters. The rest in the series—which picked up with "Leprechaun 2"—went straight to video.
